The Nesting Grounds serves only Fair Trade Certified Coffee, including our espresso. We also serve fair trade tea for all our brewed green, black and rooibus teas and offer fair trade chai, chocolate frappe and chocolate bars.
Fair Trade certified means that you know the family farmers of all our coffee received a fair price for their quality beans and are being supported through community projects as well to help improve their lives and not exploit them as is often the case in this industry.
In a nutshell Fair Trade Certification assures you:
Farmers received a living sustainability price of at least $1.55 for organic beans (1.35 for conventional) plus 10 cents a pound went to the democratically-run cooperative for community imporvment projects.
All workers work in decent conditions and for fair wages and no child labor is used during the school year (children can help their own family farms during harvest)
Access to pre-harvest credit is available to farmers
All farming is done in an environmentally sustainable way. In our case all but two coffees are organically grown and most are also shade grown.
A international independent third-party oversees certification and conducts checks to assure compliance.
So come enjoy our great tasting coffee with a clear conscience, knowing you are contributing to making this a better world.
